(Q.) What brought you to the Company?

(A.) I had just moved to Bangor, North Wales from Southampton and was looking for part time work as I had just bought a house. (A.) Having never worked in a busy bar/ restaurant before, I started part time. Then quickly went to full time, mastering the cocktails and sweating every Saturday on Bangor’s busy cocktail bar. I then got promoted to Head Barman, a position I really enjoyed as it is very ‘hands on’ and you get to learn all aspects of running a bar. When an opportunity arose I become Assistant Manager, then after a year became Deputy Manager. In August 2008 I was offered the position of General Manager which I happily accepted just in time to get ready for a busy Christmas!

I’m really interested to see what news sites will be opening in 2010/2011 and who knows I might even be tempted to leave 'sunny!' Bangor. It’s thanks to Fat Cat that I have chosen this industry to work in and I hope my career in it continues

Matt White
Manager Fat Cat Leicester & Northampton

(Q.) What brought you to the Company?

(A.) My younger brother worked at the site in Leicester and made me aware of the position that was available. At first I did not apply as I didn’t think I had the skills or experience to join such a well established company. The general manager contacted me and explained about the extensive training I would receive and convinced me to apply. I had two interviews and was offered the position of Deputy Manager. I was also offered another job at the same time but after some careful consideration I chose Fat Cat and the rest is, as they say, history!

(Q.) How long have you worked for us?

(A.) I have worked for the Fat Cat Group for 6 years now

(Q.) Provide a brief summary of your career progression whilst with Fat Cat

During this time I was awarded Deputy Manager of the year. I was then offered the opportunity to become an Area Deputy Manager, meaning that I got to split my time across two sites in the group. After a few months I was seconded to become an acting General Manager in the Northampton site. I spent 4 months re-branding and developing the site. In September 2007 I was appointed General Manager of Fat Cat Leicester. I am know a senior General Manager within the group and apart from the day to day running of the companies busiest wet site I am also a mentor to new General Managers and have recently been involved in negotiating new supplier contracts for the entire Fat Cat group.

(Q.) During that time, what has impressed you about Fat Cat as a company?

(A.) Fat Cat has always liked to do things that little bit different and that little bit better than everyone else on the high street. The company places a lot of emphasis on quality, whether it is in the products we stock, the ingredients we use, the décor of our sites or, most importantly, in the people we employ. I like the fact that as a company Fat Cat appreciates and rewards loyalty.

(A.) A well organised operator of quality bars with strong values and sense of loyalty.

(Q.) 3 words to describe Fat Cats?

(Q.) Finally, what would you like the future at Fat Cat to hold for you?

(A.) I hope that as a company we continue to grow and increase the number of outlets we operate so that there are more new positions created. I would like to continue to carry out work across the whole group and ultimately maybe a position that allows me to do this daily. Am I allowed to say a big pay rise too?
